Readings on Interdisciplinarity

After reading both articles, the one that stood out to me most was “Why some people are impossibly talented,” by Tim Hackers because there were so many elements of this article that I could relate back to my every day life and how I feel on a daily basis. The part of the article that I found the most insightful and interesting was the section called “Switching Subjects.” I found this section particularly interesting because it discusses how switching from one activity to another can be helpful when trying to boost productivity. I felt as though it made being a part of multiple different activities is better for you than not since in the long run it can help you.

I am a part of the track team, and often I feel like I am spreading myself too thin and that it gets difficult to balance school work with practices. But when I feel like I’m having a hard time with any homework or had a long day of classes, going to practices and throwing shot put or lifting helped bring me out of that “funk” and motivated me a little more to do my work afterwards. Taking a break from something that is frustrating or difficult is like resetting your brain to come back and do much better than before. It helps bring a growth mindset and allows yourself to get back into the swing of doing better work.
