PLN – ePort – Open Mindedness
Throughout this course this semester, there have been many tools and ideas that I have used to get me through creating my own major. Although this class was difficult from the start, my ePort, PLN, and newly found open mindedness helped me through the course work and the process of creating an entirely new major.
My ePort was a tool that was extremely helpful to me this semester. It helped me keep an organized portfolio of all the work I have done for not only this class, but my major classes as well. Having an ePort makes it easy to see all the important tasks I’ve done through 3 semesters at Plymouth and to share any important research throughout my following semesters. I would like to continue to use my ePort to it’s full potential and hopefully use it as some kind of resume for future jobs I may encounter. In other classes, I would like to be able to share my research quickly amongst my professors and my peers so that it is organized, and my PLN can also help with that aspect of things as well.
The PLN creation was an interesting process, considering I made an entirely separate Twitter page from my personal one, but I feel as though it will be helpful in the long run. The research I conducted while doing the PLN helped me realize that it would be a good way to share my research and papers so that everyone can access them. It also demonstrated that it was a good way to access other people’s research and look through professional work to show me what my work can look like and show a path into the future that I could possibly take later on in life. The PLN will be a helpful tool for future courses because it will allow me to do further research on topics in class and to bring it to my fellow peers and professors.
Lastly, I didn’t realize how important open mindedness would be for this course. It took a lot of trial and error to create the perfect course catalog for my major. Having an open mind is extremely important during this process because you have to be open to any possible course change at any moment. I also had to listen to some of the professors when giving expert advice, so having an open mind with their suggestions was also helpful as well. I believe that having an open mind throughout my following courses will be helpful because it allows you to think more freely. If you are stuck in one mindset, it won’t be helpful for any research you are doing. Allowing yourself to have an open mind will create a whole new experience for you in research and other aspects of classes.
These 3 components will help me take control of my learning and educational experience because it allows me to create and share something new. Not only will I have control over the next few semesters, but I will also be able to strengthen my skills with practice in sharing and learning new things to demonstrate my major with my peers and professors.
