During my conversations with these experts, I learned a lot about different classes I could add to my contract as well as how to fit them in my remaining semesters. At the beginning of my sessions, I was told that the classes I had in my contract already were perfect for what I’m attempting to create for my major. As I continued, I had a great discussion with Amy Villamagna from the Environmental Science department to help figure out what other classes would work with what I had. She recommended a great deal of classes that would flow well with my major, as well as some Anthropology courses that Laura Tilghman would also suggest later on. Out of the many classes Amy Villamagna suggested to me, I decided that the Environmental Outreach and Communication class would make a great addition to my course contract. We had some great discussions throughout our session, and she was extremely helpful in helping me configure a good course contract.
As well as working with Amy Villamagna, I had a conversation with my current anthropology professor Laura Tilghman about what anthropology classes to take. I had her as a professor last semester for Foundations of Anthropology and have her this semester for Wealth and Poverty. We had a discussion at the end of last semester about what anthropology classes I should take since I liked Foundations of Anthropology and she suggested Wealth and Poverty. During the expert advice period, I gave her more details about what I would be combining, and she had suggested Environmental Anthropology before seeing that I had already chosen it, as well as Sociology of Race and Ethnicity. I thought that it was an interesting class to add, but once she explained her reasoning that race equality organizations have been making strides to help the environmental issues, it made sense to add to my course contract.
These experts helped me greatly in finishing my course contract and helping me figure out when I should be taking what classes. By looking at the course number, it can help you decide what years to take classes, and that’s what I did to complete my planning guide. I will continue to go to these experts and many others to help me along the way for my remaining semesters at Plymouth State University.
